Welcome to Yorkshire are championing Yorkshire tourism with innovative marketing and PR. Their new website needed to showcase the county's scenery, attractions and activities.
After working on a number of successful projects with the Welcome to Yorkshire team, we were brought on board to deliver the back-end development for their new Yorkshire.com website. By collaborating with their chosen design agency we were able to build them a site which not only looked good, but performed well, to allow them to collate and manage over 30,000 records for the visitor attractions, accommodation and events they promote on behalf of their members.

A large element of the technical build was to develop a complete replacement of their Destination Management Application (DMA). The previous DMA was over 10 years old with over 30,000 records. The current 3rd party solution was restrictive, slow and couldn't handle the information in the way the client wanted. This data needed migrating from the old proprietary system to the new Umbraco 7 set up.
The new system now allows client editors to respond quickly to listing page changes and editorial changes (which previously had been a four hour wait for updates), allowing them to provide richer content on members’ pages and deliver the data far more effectively.
The bespoke solution we created not only saved the client time in handling their records, changes and updates, but also saved them the significant annual costs for the old 3rd party software. These improvements also had a wider impact for their members, who reported an immediate increase in bookings and revenue as a direct result from the new and improved Yorkshire.com website.
Despite having to work with multiple agencies, the process was very smooth. Outfield Digital worked to an agile framework and successfully managed the process with our previous data/technology supplier and worked closely with our chosen creative agency for design, which resulted in the project going live on time and on budget.
